Timeline hover preview

CursorClip can preview your recording as you move across the timeline. This is useful when you want to skim quickly, but you can turn it off if you prefer a calmer click-only editing flow.

When timeline hover preview is on, moving your pointer across the timeline updates the video preview after a short delay. When it is off, the preview changes only when you click or drag the timeline.

Change the setting

Your choice is saved automatically and stays the same after restarting CursorClip.

  1. 1

    Open CursorClip.

  2. 2

    Go to Settings.

  3. 3

    Open General.

  4. 4

    Find Editor.

  5. 5

Turn Preview timeline on hover on or off.

When to keep it on

Keep timeline hover preview on if you skim recordings often and want to find moments quickly.

  • Reviewing long recordings
  • Finding a click, pause, or mistake
  • Jumping between parts of a demo
  • Fast editing sessions where speed matters

When to turn it off

Turn it off if the preview changes too easily while your pointer moves around the editor.

  • Careful segment editing
  • Working on a trackpad
  • Avoiding accidental preview jumps
  • Keeping playback steady while reviewing

What still works when it is off

Turning this off only disables hover-based previewing. You can still:

  • Click the timeline to preview that moment
  • Drag the ruler to scrub
  • Select and edit segments
  • Use scissors mode
  • Edit zoom regions
  • Drag zoom handles and preview changes

Recommended default

Most users should leave this on. If you prefer deliberate editing over quick skimming, turn it off.
