To record yourself presenting a PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides deck on a Mac, with audio and video, start with the app’s own recorder. PowerPoint’s Recording Studio records your camera and voice. Keynote’s Record Slideshow records your voice. Google Slides now records through Google Vids in Chrome or Edge. For slides, your face and a live demo in one video, use a Mac screen recorder.

Every row except CursorClip’s is what the vendor’s own support page says, checked 6 October 2026. Links are in each section below.

The short version: if all you need is your slides and your voice, or your slides with a small camera window, the built-in recorder is enough. Reach for CursorClip when the presentation leaves the slides. A product walkthrough, a spreadsheet, a code editor or a website in the middle of the talk is where a slide recorder stops and a screen recorder starts.

Record a PowerPoint presentation with audio and video on Mac

PowerPoint for Mac has a built-in recorder that captures your camera and your voice. Microsoft’s page Record a slide show with narration and slide timings lists PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 for Mac, PowerPoint 2024 for Mac and PowerPoint 2021 for Mac among the versions it applies to (checked 6 October 2026).

  1. Open your deck and select the Record button in the top right corner, or choose Record > From Beginning or From Current Slide. This opens Recording Studio.
  2. Choose Teleprompter view if you want your notes on screen while you look at the camera, or Presenter view.
  3. Use the options in the recording toolbar to turn your camera and microphone on or off. You can blur your background from the camera options.
  4. Optional: style your camera feed first with Cameo (Recording > Cameo, then Camera format).
  5. Select record, present, and use pause and resume as you go. The Preview Play button shows what you recorded, and the trash button deletes a slide’s recording so you can redo it.
  6. Press Esc or select End show. Your narration is applied to each slide.
  7. Choose Record > Export to video to get a video file.

Limits. PowerPoint records the slide show. If your talk switches to a browser or another app for a demo, that part is not in PowerPoint’s recording, so you would record it separately and join the two. Microsoft also states that PowerPoint for the web does not support recording a slide show, so this needs the desktop app.

How to record a Keynote presentation

Keynote records a slideshow with your voice. Apple’s guide Record Keynote presentations on Mac describes it this way (checked 6 October 2026):

  1. Open your presentation and click the slide you want to start with in the slide navigator.
  2. Choose Play > Record Slideshow. The presenter display appears, with recording controls at the bottom of the screen and your presenter notes in view.
  3. Click the record button. A 3-second countdown runs, then recording starts.
  4. Advance with the Right Arrow key and go back with the Left Arrow key. The microphone button mutes and resumes narration.
  5. Click stop when you finish. You can preview, rerecord from any point by dragging the playback slider, or clear the whole recording.
  6. Press Esc. The recording is saved with the presentation. To make a video, use Apple’s export guide.

Limits. Apple’s recording guide talks about voiceover narration and a microphone. It does not mention recording your camera. Keynote can place live video on a slide, but Apple does not say whether Record Slideshow captures it, so record a 10-second test before you rely on it. For your face in the video with certainty, record the slideshow with a screen recorder that has a camera, as in the CursorClip section below.

How to record a Google Slides presentation

Google Slides now has a recorder of its own. On 20 August 2026, Google announced a Record option in the right-hand menu of Slides that records through Google Vids. Rollout started on 20 August for Rapid Release domains and on 7 September 2026 for Scheduled Release domains. Steps from Google’s help page, record your slides with Google Vids (both checked 6 October 2026):

  1. Open the presentation in Chrome or Edge. Google says recording works only in those two browsers.
  2. On the right, click Record, then Record video.
  3. Choose Camera & Screen to record yourself picture-in-picture with your slides, Audio for voice only, or Screen for the slideshow alone.
  4. Pick your camera and microphone from the menus, click Next, choose the presentation, and record.
  5. Click Edit to open the recording in Google Vids, or Share & copy link to share it.

Who gets it. Google’s announcement says it is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and personal Google accounts. Google’s help page still says the feature “may only be available on certain work or school accounts”. If you don’t see Record, your account may not have it yet. The older recorder below or a screen recorder still works.

The older recorder. If your organization had Google’s earlier Slides recording, it moves to View > Slides Recording. Google’s page for it states a 30-minute limit for every recording, and recordings save to a My Drive folder called Slides recordings.

When to use a screen recorder instead. Google’s recorder lives in the browser and records your slideshow. Use a Mac screen recorder when the talk includes a live demo outside the slides, or when you want the finished file on your Mac rather than in Drive. To keep the slideshow in a window, Google’s present slides page says to open the dropdown next to Slideshow, choose Presentation display options, and deselect Full screen.

Record any of the three with CursorClip

CursorClip is a native Mac screen recorder. It records your screen, your camera and your audio, then opens the take in an editor where you choose how your face and your slides share the frame. It fits presentations that are part slides and part live demo, and it gives you a teleprompter for your speaker notes. It is Mac only and needs macOS 13.5 or later.

1. Play the slideshow in a window

A windowed slideshow keeps your demo app, your notes and CursorClip’s controls within reach.

  • PowerPoint: on the Slide Show tab, choose Set Up Slide Show, then Browsed by an individual (window). Microsoft’s Set up Slide Show page lists the Mac versions it applies to.
  • Keynote: choose Play > In Window. Apple’s guide to playing a presentation says the slideshow and the presenter display then open in separate windows.
  • Google Slides: deselect Full screen in Presentation display options, as above.

Microsoft, Apple and Google pages checked 6 October 2026.

2. Put your speaker notes in Notes

Open Notes from CursorClip’s recording controls and paste your speaker notes or a few talking points. Notes is a floating teleprompter window you can move and resize. Auto-scroll starts off, so you scroll at your own pace or turn it on for a passage you know well. Rehearse lets you try the reader without making a video, and your draft stays saved on your Mac between takes.

Notes is designed to stay out of CursorClip’s recording. If CursorClip cannot exclude it, Notes is hidden for the take and your script is kept. It is not built to hide from Zoom, Meet or Teams screen shares, so don’t use it as a prompter on a live call. More on the teleprompter page.

3. Choose what to record and turn on your camera

  • Slides only: record the slideshow window.
  • Slides and a live demo: record the whole display, so the demo app is in the take when you switch to it.

Turn on your camera and pick your microphone. Turn on system audio too if a slide plays a video with sound or your demo makes sounds. Camera layouts need the camera recording, so switch the camera on now even if you are not sure you will use it.

4. Record, and let the demo zoom itself

Advance slides with the arrow keys. CursorClip makes a zoom where you click inside what you record, and typing or arrow keys make no zooms, so your slides stay full frame. When you switch to the demo, click the thing you are talking about as you talk about it, and the view zooms in on it. Clicks on the Notes panel and on CursorClip’s own controls don’t make zooms. Any zoom can be moved, resized or removed later on the Zoom lane (how automatic zooms work).

5. Lay out your face and your slides

In the editor’s Layouts tab, pick a default and change it on the timeline where it helps. Screen with camera puts your face in a bubble over the slides. Side by side splits the frame between slides and camera. Camera shows only you, which works for an intro or a closing line. Each change can be a Cut, a Fade or a Morph. See layouts for the full set.

6. Export

Export as MP4 (the default), MOV or GIF, at Original, 720p, 1080p or 4K size where your recording is large enough. You get a file on your Mac that you upload wherever your audience is. CursorClip has no share links and no captions, so if you want a link the moment you stop, Google’s Vids recorder or a cloud tool does that better.

What it costs. Free to record and edit. A license to export: $70 once, $29 a year or $9 a month, and a license covers up to 3 Macs. Try it free, or see pricing.

Tips for a better presentation video

Rehearse with your notes in view. Run the whole talk once without recording. PowerPoint’s Teleprompter view, Keynote’s presenter display and CursorClip’s Rehearse all let you practice with the script in front of you. Cut any sentence you stumble on twice.

Look at the camera, not the slides. Put your notes window at the top of the screen, as close to the camera as you can, and narrow it so your eyes travel less. Short lines read better than full paragraphs.

Keep audio simple. A microphone close to your mouth beats a better microphone across the desk. If you also record system audio, close apps that make notification sounds. For audio setup in more depth, see screen recorder for Mac with audio.

Export for where it is going. An MP4 at 1080p is a sensible default for YouTube or a course platform, and H.264 is CursorClip’s default codec. Check your course platform’s upload size limit before you export a long talk at 4K.

Record in sections. A long talk is easier to redo in pieces. All three built-in recorders let you rerecord a slide or a stretch, and in a screen recorder you can stop between sections and trim the joins in the editor.

Frequently asked questions

Can PowerPoint for Mac record my webcam and voice?

Yes. Microsoft’s support page says PowerPoint can record your presentation and capture voice, ink gestures and your video presence, and that on Mac you open Recording Studio with the Record button in the top right corner. You can turn the camera and microphone on or off in the recording toolbar, then choose Record, Export to video to make a video file. PowerPoint for the web does not support recording a slide show. Checked 6 October 2026.

Does Keynote record your camera when you record a slideshow?

Apple’s Keynote guide describes Play, Record Slideshow as recording voiceover narration, with a button to mute the microphone. It does not mention recording your camera (checked 6 October 2026). Keynote can show live video on a slide, but Apple does not say whether Record Slideshow captures it, so record a short test first. If you want your face in the video for certain, record the slideshow with a screen recorder that has a camera.

Can you record a presentation in Google Slides?

Yes. Google announced on 20 August 2026 a Record option in the right-hand menu of Slides that records through Google Vids, with Camera and Screen, Audio, or Screen modes, in Chrome and Edge only. Google’s announcement lists personal accounts as eligible, while its help page says the feature may only be available on certain work or school accounts. The older Slides recording option moves to View, Slides Recording and has a 30-minute limit per recording. Checked 6 October 2026.

How do I record myself presenting a PowerPoint and a live demo in one video?

Use a Mac screen recorder with a camera. Play the slideshow in a window, record the whole display with your camera and microphone on, and switch to the app you are demoing when you get there. In CursorClip, clicks in the demo become zooms, arrow keys that advance slides do not, and you can change between camera bubble, side by side and camera only on the timeline afterwards.

Will my speaker notes show up in the recording?

Not if you read them from CursorClip’s Notes teleprompter while CursorClip records. Notes is designed to stay out of CursorClip’s recording, and if CursorClip cannot exclude it, Notes is hidden instead and your script is kept. Notes is not built to hide from Zoom, Meet or Teams screen shares, so do not rely on it there. PowerPoint’s own Recording Studio also has a teleprompter view for your notes.

Is CursorClip free?

Free to record and edit. A license to export. CursorClip is a native Mac app for macOS 13.5 or later, and a license covers up to 3 Macs. See cursorclip.com/pricing for the lifetime, yearly and monthly prices.
